How to change engine oil & filter on a Porsche Cayenne V6 (2003-2010)

To maintain your vehicle's health, it is important to change your engine oil and filter regularly. Porsche recommends changing the engine oil and filter every 1 year or 10,000 miles. However, we recommend a replacing your engine oil every 5,000 miles if you want to keep your engine healthy for years to come. While it may be intimidating to work on your Porsche, changing the oil and filter isn't much different than on other vehicles. This is a great entry-level maintenance procedure that you can perform yourself and save yourself money on year after year. To perform this DIY, check out the tutorial above from YouTube channel, Rubber Duc. ↗️Mobil 1 0W-40 (10 quarts)
↗️Oil filter
↗️Oil drain plug & washer
↗️36mm socket
↗️19mm socket
Instructions:
  1. Gather required tools and parts and put on gloves and eye protection.
     

  2. Position vehicle on a flat surface.
     

  3. Raise vehicle via vehicle ramps or jack stands; be sure to engage parking brake.

    Note: If you have air suspension, simply raise your car to the highest ride height. If you have air suspension and decided to jack up the car, you will need to lock the air suspension by starting the car and holding the air suspension button up for 10 seconds. You will see an indicator pop up on your gauge cluster.

     

  4. Remove underbody trays, which are held on by several T25 Torx screws; the panel cover the mid section of the vehicle is also uses two 10mm bolts.
     

  5. Locate the oil drain plug and place a drain pan underneath. Remove oil drain plug using an 19mm socket; be sure to grab the plug so it doesn't fall into the drain pan
     

  6. While the oil is draining, remove the oil filter cap and filter, which is located underneath the engine and forward of the oil drain pan.​ Be sure to place a small oil drain pan underneath to catch any dripping oil.
     

  7. Replace oil filter with new filter; be sure to use new a new o-ring seal, which should be included with your new oil filter. You can also add some engine oil to your filter to help lubricate the engine on initial start-up.
     

  8. Re-install the new oil filter and cap; tighten the oil filter cap to 19 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
     

  9. After allowing the oil to drain for 30 minutes, re-install the brand new oil drain plug and crush washer and tighten it to 22 ft-lbs.

  10. Now it's time to add engine oil. The Porsche Cayenne V6 has the following engine oil capacities:

    2003-2006: 6.7 quarts
    2008-2010: 7.3 quarts


    Add 5.5 quarts of oil, wait about 2 minutes, then check the engine oil level with the dipstick. Add oil as necessary in 0.25 quart increments.
     

  11. Ensure there are no oil leaks, then re-install underbody panels.
     

  12. Take the car for a short drive, then allow the car to sit off for 20 minutes.
     

  13. Check the engine oil level using the dipstick and top off engine oil as necessary.
     
  14. Collect all of your tools and clean up; you're all done!
